2 of the Best Desserts that Go with Fresh Seafood

Only a few can argue that a tasty and mouthwatering dessert isn't the perfect way to end a fabulous meal. When you think of a seafood dinner, the first thing that comes to mind is probably not desserts. The combo seemingly is a polar opposite.  However, even though all desserts are delicious in their ways, certain flavors in a dessert for seafood dinner can complement the meal you ate better.  Fresh seafood has a unique taste compared to poultry or other meats. Certain sweet flavors make up seafood desserts. These flavors will complement different seafood dishes. A seafood meal's light and salty flavors mix best with a vibrant, sugary end-of-meal sweet treat.

The splash of citrus brings out the flavors in these delicious seafood entrees.  Did you know that the acidity of lemon juice can actually both cut or enhance the flavors of fish? That is why we recommend a seafood dessert that is every bit as lemony and fresh! Lemon sorbet is a delicious way to end a meal filled with oysters, clams, and mussels. Heavy shellfish dinners are best finished off with a bright lemony flavor because lemon cleanses the palette. Any lingering oyster, clam, or mussel flavors will be cleared and complimented by a lovely lemon sorbet.  Lemon sorbet also pairs well after other meals composed mainly of spicy fish, sushi, or raw fish meals. It is relatively simple to make lemon sorbet at home! Next time you serve up some linguine and clams or oysters, try out this seafood dessert recipe.

Lemon Sorbet Recipe

First, you will need to gather the following ingredients. For preparation, you will need a small saucepan and an ice cream maker. For those that do not have an ice cream maker at home, don't worry. There is an alternative approach you can take and still make fresh lemon sorbet at home!
  • 1 ¾ cup of filtered water
  • 2 cups of fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2.5 tablespoons of fresh lemon zest
  1. Fill your saucepan with the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir occasionally and bring the mixture to a boil. You will want to make sure the sugar fully dissolves. Typically, once you boil the mixture, it will take about only a minute for the sugar to dissolve.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool. Pro tip: Pouring the mix into an alternative bowl will make the cooling process more efficient. Once cooled, stir in the lemon juice and lemon zest.
  3. Place the mixture in your ice cream maker and churn according to its instructions. Once you have finished the churning process, pour the mixture into an airtight container to freeze. It'll seem reasonably soft, so we suggest freezing for a few hours until you serve for a more solidified result.
If you do not have an ice cream maker, pour your cooled mixture with the lemon juice and zest into a bread baking pan. Every 30 minutes, whisk the mixture well with a fork. You will want to freeze for 2-3 hours. You will have 4-6 churning sessions.

Lobster Desserts

In America, lobster is a seafood fan-favorite while being an emblem of fine dining. The meat is rich yet sweet and full of flavor. Rich butter and lemon make an excellent combination to the seafood delight.  Are you wondering what to pair with a classic lobster dish? A flakey, warm butter cake topped with vanilla ice cream and fresh whipped cream does the mouthwatering trick.  Did you know lobster used to be known as food for the lower class? Now, just ordering a lobster tail at a steakhouse can cost you upwards of $30. The best lobster desserts can depend on how you choose to prepare the entre. A simpler sherbert or light key lime pie will pair well if you enjoy lobster in a rich pasta dish or pot pie. However, a dessert after broiled lobster can be a bit richer. Butter cake or fruit tarts are divine with the high-end seafood.

  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 18 tablespoons, about 2 sticks, of unsalted room temperature butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons of whole milk
  1. First, you will want to grease your loaf pan and preheat your oven to 375 degrees. We recommend using butter to prepare your pan.
  2. Next, sift and combine the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Next, beat the sugar and butter with an electronic mixer for about 3 minutes in a different bowl. Then, slowly beat in the eggs one by one for an additional two minutes. Add the vanilla extract to this mixture and combine.
  4. Slowly add the flour mixture in quarters, thoroughly combining each portion before adding more. Finally, add in the whole milk and blend well.
  5. Distribute the batter into your prepared pan. Pro tip: You may have to jiggle or shake the pan slightly to distribute the batter evenly. Cook the cake for about 40-50 minutes. Test the readiness by inserting a clean toothpick. Once the toothpick comes out dry, you can take your cake out of the oven to cool a bit.
  6. We recommend serving butter cake warm. You can serve this delightful cake alone or spruce it up with some fresh vanilla bean ice cream, whip cream, and an assortment of juicy berries.
